Iridium Extreme Satellite Phone Rental

Our Ultra-Compact™ Solar Iridium Extreme satellite phone rentals are supplied with solar charger and backup battery in tiny transparent case allowing the phone to be charged while inside the case.

Our Iridium Extreme satellite phone rentals with their omni-directional antennas are particularly suited for use out at sea, at the polar regions, and in mountainous terrain for away from the equator.

This solar edition of our Iridium Extreme satellite phone rental has a nominal increase in weight versus the non-solar edition, but is still very light clocking in at 1220g for the complete kit.

The very practical USB mains and USB car chargers included with our  Ultra-Compact™ satphone rentals allows you to not only charge your satphone rental, but also any other gadgets you might be travelling with.

Our Iridium Extreme satellite phone rentals are fairly robust, however their antennas are prone to damage when thrown in a backpack therefore should always be kept in the protective cases we supply them in.

Simply select the duration for which you require your Iridium Extreme satphone rental and add to cart together with a bundle of airtime, which will be your allowance to use over the duration of your rental period.

You will specify the start date for your Iridium Extreme satellite phone rental during the checkout process on our website, and we will make sure your rental phone reaches you a day or two before your start date.

You need to make your own arrangements to have your rental phone delivered back to us at the end of the rental period, and there are surcharges for phones that we receive back later than the paid-for timeframe.

To ensure availability, please place the order for your Iridium Extreme satellite phone rental at least 14 days before your rental start date if at all possible.

Iridium Extreme Rental Terms

You will select your Iridium Extreme rental start date i.e. the date by which you want to receive your rental during the checkout process on our website, and your rental duration runs from the date you select as the start/delivery date on your order, until the day we receive the phone back.

We will deliver your Iridium Extreme satellite phone rental to you just before the start of the rental period, which will give you an opportunity to get to know and make some test calls with your phone.

You are then required to make arrangements to have the phone returned to us after your travels, via either courier or Royal Mail tracked service back to our distribution centre in Purley on Thames. Rentals received back returned later than the booked time-frame will be charged at £7.50 per day.

Should you use 80% or more of your pre-purchased airtime allowance during your trip, we will automatically recharge your account with another 75 minutes of airtime at a cost of £100.

Iridium Satellite Phone Network Coverage

Iridium is the only satellite network offering truly global coverage including all landmasses, oceans and airways.

Note that the functionality of Iridium handheld satellite phones may be limited by certain regional vouchers, such as the African voucher which can only be used to make calls from Africa.

SOS Button

If you have rented your Iridium Extreme and you want to be able to make use of the SOS button on your phone, you will need to contact GEOS and buy travel insurance and or search and rescue insurance prior to your travels. You will be required to register your rental phone with GEOS prior to departure, and you will also need to deregister it from GEOS after your return. There is a USD50 handling fee for us to handle deregistration on your behalf.

Simply register your phone at http://www.geosalliance.com/iridium and you can travel with the peace of mind of knowing that when you press that SOS button, the guys at GEOS will know you’re in trouble. During registration you will inform GEOS of who your emergency contacts are, so that when you press the SOS button they know which relatives, friends, or colleagues to notify that you’re in trouble.

If you intend to be able to make use of the SOS button in an emergency it is imperative that you test it before your departure from civilisation to make sure that it functions correctly and that you are satisfied that it is working OK. Please note that, the standard service from GEOS does not include any search and rescue (SAR) services. Should you want search and rescue you can sign up for that as an optional extra, at a nominal fee. See the GEOS website for details.
